BURNING FAT: Cardio vs. Weights

Which exercises are better: Cardio or lifting weights???
While Cardio burns slightly more calories, lifting weights blast more fat overall! Pumping iron gives you a metabolic spike for an hour AFTER a workout because your muscles expand more energy as they try to recover. Research shows that people who strength train burn more fat postworkout than those who do just cardio.

Cardio workout, however, has other benefits. In addition to burning more calories it boosts the metabolism, increases energy, strengthens the heart, strengthens the lungs and increases lung capacity, helps reduce stress and anxiety, and it promotes restful sleep. You should sustain your cardio workout for 20ย  minutes or more (30 min. should be enough) on a schedule of about three to four times per week.

Great Exercises to Sculpt & Firm your Glutes

There exercises probably aren’t traditional but they work very well! If you can, try to incorporate some weights and you’ll see results faster than you think:)ย  Remember: don’t over do it- safety first ๐Ÿ™‚ Here is a breakdown to this workout video:
1. Step ups – 10 reps. on each leg (a pair of weights for advanced)
2. One leg stand ups – 10 reps on each leg
3. Dead Lifts – 15 reps. (preferably with heavier weights)
4. Kick ups – 10 reps + 10 pulses on each leg (2 sets)
5. Diagonal kick ups – 20 reps or 30-60 sec. on each leg
6. Side knee lifts – 30-60 sec. on each side (1 weight for advanced)
** Repeat the segmentย

2 week Fight Camp

I have been very busy this past few weeks and therefore, I haven’t been working out as much as I should and planned – as you can tell from the amount of entries I’ve made ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Today, I joined a 2 week Muay Thai fight camp program. It consists of skill, strength, and conditioning training. I Jumped rope for 10 minutes, kicked and punched the bag for many long rounds, and shadow boxed. Despite the fact that I’ve trained Muay Thai some time ago, and I am “in shape”, I left lots of sweat on the floor ๐Ÿ™‚

I have another series of exercises prepared but I need to shoot it first. I plan to do it over the weekend or early next week. So step by in a few days to check out another video ๐Ÿ™‚

Memorial Day weekend & hiking on a windy day- not much fun :(

This year Memorial Day weekend was very windy!ย  I went on a camping trip and although I was tired from hiking in the heat all day, I hardly slept the first night. After midnight, the wind started blowing so hard that sometimes I wondered whether I’m in a tent or a parachute ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL!ย  When I woke up , I thought I was on a beach! there was sand everywhere: in my sleeping back, on my face, and in my eyes…. everywhere! Like someone has dumped buckets of sand inside my tent! After eating a “sandy” breakfastย  we decided to go back because the wind carried not only sand but also small rocks, which kept hitting and scratching our faces – that wasn’t very pleasant. There wasn’t much else for us to do there, so we drove back to LA. Yesterday, it wasn’t as windy as Saturday and Sunday so I went to nearby Angeles Mountains. The park was very crowded by I managed to enjoy a short hike and reach waterfalls ๐Ÿ™‚This picture was taken on a first day of hiking, when was hot, sunny and just beautiful!!

Back to basics: 10 Fantastic & Effective Abdominal Exercises

I decided to go back to my old exercising routines:) It’s been a while since I did simple workout- without any weights or equipment. For a very long time,ย  I’ve been trying to challenge myself and therefore, look for some new and harder workouts. Well, sometimes going back to old school can be good for my body and my muscles. In this video you’ll find 10 exercises that I simply love! I think they are wonderful for beginners and experts! They helped me to get in shape, so they should be beneficial for you as well. The last exercises is the hardest and it may be difficult for some of you but try doing as many as you can, so simply put your feet down and “row” with your feet flat on the floor.

Fun & Easy Full-Body Workout

This routine is fairly easy. You should use medium weights – try what works best for you. If it’s too easy, just pick up heavier dumbbells and try again ๐Ÿ™‚ The workout includes some basic jumping – of course I put it in as a warm up round to get some cardio going and warm up the legs. Lunges and squats are great to shape your legs, thighs and glues. Also, you’ll find there one leg shoulder fly, which is fantastic for arms, shoulders and to practice your balance. Fly doneย  this way also works your butt & legs:)ย  Walking plank is excellent for your core muscles. It works your abdominal, arms and shoulders and a little bit of legs as well. It’s a very good strength training exercise as well.ย

Exercises for Sleek & Slim Arms and toned Shoulders

Weeks ago I recorded this video. I misses the intro and therefore this workout has been sitting in my computer’s file. Practically, all I need to say is “Hello” and “you need a set of light weights to do these exercises“-ย  That’s all!!

This workout is great!ย  Often, I do it as a warm up routine before I lift heavier weights. Do it 2-3 times a week along with some of my other workouts and you will tone your arms faster than you think ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  Good luck!

Sunny Days = Workouts Outside

We had a beautiful day in LA! It was sunny but not hot. I taught a kids karate class in the morning and when I came back I was very tempted to get outside and do some outdoor activities. I could imagine aย  pair of my shoes saying “please take us outside” ๐Ÿ™‚ So I did. I hit the road and 4.5 miles later I came back home really happy and energized. I have to take advantage of this weather before gets really hot and dry. Today though mission accomplished ๐Ÿ™‚

I would like to encourage everyone to get outside and do something for 20-30 minutes: whatever it might be: Hiking, walking, running or playing ball! It will make you feel better ๐Ÿ™‚ !
